Crisis Evaluation and Walk-In Clinic

Students who are in crisis, but able to maintain control and safety of themselves and others can receive a free crisis screening through BBH.   Current BBH clients who are in crisis, but able to maintain control and safety of themselves and others should be directed to their current provider.  For students who are currently enrolled in the CPR program who have a Community Support Specialist (CSS), it is recommended that every effort be made to contact the student's CSS.

The Walk-In Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for clients new to Burrell Behavioral Health.  The last walk-in is taken at 4:15 p.m, and the legal guardian must be present at the time of screening. Clients are seen on a first come, first serve basis. During the initial appointment, a brief screener is given to determine client needs and appropriate services.  Additionally, the Access Center employs an Engagement Specialist who helps to find resources and provide assistance with insurance barriers.

If a child is in crisis and unable to maintain control and safety of themselves or others, dial 9-1-1 or go to the emergency room.

Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program

CPR is an in-home service provided to families who have children with a serious emotional disturbance (SED) illness with qualifying diagnoses such as PTSD, OCD or Depression. CPR provides assessment, treatment planning, and direct interaction for children and adolescents. This service helps to provide skill training for both parents and children that may include but is not limited to: parenting, stress and anger management, social and relationship, and communication and conflict resolution. CPR helps to access and coordinate needed resources for the family which may include the child’s school, Children's Division, Juvenile Office, various community resources and other treatment related services as well as other family supports. The goal of CPR is to help the child function successfully in the least restrictive setting, to reach their fullest potential and to allow children and adolescents to remain in their community without unnecessary hospitalizations. CPR is the primary service in the children's psychiatric rehabilitation program.  The worker assigned to the family enrolled in CPR is known as the Community Support Specialist (CSS).

Family Health Program

The Family Health Program is funded through the Boone County Children's Mental Health Tax and provides psychiatric care coordination and therapy services to families with children ages 2-20.  This program is open to children with any diagnosis, as well as families with private insurance.  Contact Burrell's main number to refer your family for this program.

Brain Train

The Brain Train program is funded through the Boone County Children's Mental Health Tax and is offered free of charge to children qualifying for this service.  The Brain Train is a medication minimization program for students diagnosed with ADHD.  Neuropsycho Feedback is used for this 40 hour program, spread out over 1 hour/week.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is designed for parents with children aged 2-7 who have an ODD diagnosis.  The purpose of this parent/child therapy is to teacher parents to manage and bond with their child.  This intense 14 week program requires full commitment on the part of the parent.  This therapy is billed through insurance.

Parent Management Training (PMT)

PMT is designed for parents with children aged 2-12 years.  The purpose of this training is to help parents to gain better respect and control over their child.  This is a less intense version of PCIT and is billed through insurance.
